An outcome from our Looking Forward Latrobe work, Creative Latrobe is a partnership between Latrobe Health Assembly and Latrobe City Council.

The project aims to work with the community to implement exciting and bold art activations and installations across Latrobe Valley.

The Creative Latrobe Report outlines the ideas and thinking behind the project, guided by community input. Suggestions of places in need of public art include underpasses/interchanges, facades, nooks, bus stops and planters/garden beds.

Kicking things off in early 2022, a mural was completed at Centenary Park in Yinnar by local artists Steve Bechaz. The mural compliments a new playpark that attracts families, bringing life to the façade of a shed that borders the area.

Traralgon, Morwell, Moe, Churchill and a yet-to-be-decided small town have been selected as towns to implement public art projects. While the sites for Traralgon have already been identified – Whitakers Road and Bert Thompson Underpasses – the sites for the other townships are to be chosen with input from community.

The types of art for all locations will be guided by community who are encouraged to think big – anywhere from mural, sculpture, digital, light, sound-based, kinetic or a combination of art forms.

Township-based workshops are now underway for those who want to learn more and have input into what the projects might look like.

A survey is also available at the link for those who cannot attend the workshops in person.
