Dan Poynton

Daniel has worked in the Sport and Recreation industry for 17 years in State Government, For-Profit enterprise and Government funded Not-for-Profit organisations.  He is currently the Executive Officer for GippSport, and was previously the Regional Coordinator, Gippsland for Sport & Recreation Victoria.

As a professional sports administrator, Daniel is recognised for his business acumen, strategic thinking and ability to successfully engage with external stakeholders to plan, implement and evaluate high level programs and projects. Daniel ‘s work experience is supported by excellent communication skills, a keen attention to detail and a creative mind searching for innovative ways to approach community projects and development outcomes.

Daniel is a Director of Regional Sport Victoria, is on the Latrobe Health Assembly Board and has previously been a Director with the Gippsland Sports Academy.  Currently Daniel is leading the Regional Sport Victoria working group considering a major structural Governance reform for peak community sport entities in Victoria, and is part of a Sport & Recreation Victoria working group reviewing the Victorian Government’s major community sport funding program, the Supporting Victorian Sport & Recreation Program.

Daniel has qualifications in Governance and Sports Management, as well as certificates in Project Management, Leadership, Access Appraisals, Facilitation Skills, Strategic Planning as well as NFP Social Media & marketing.  Daniel is a Fellow of the Institute of Community Directors Australia and the Gippsland Community Leadership Program.

Daniel’s passion for sport extends to the volunteer work he contributes to his community.  He was on the board of Leongatha Golf Club for 7 years including 2 years as Vice President and 1 as president.  He was also on the committee of Inverloch Windsurfing Club for 9 years including 2 years as Vice President and 2 years as President.  Currently Daniel’s sport involvement is limited to riding with a trailer & running with a pram towing and pushing around his two young children.

Daniel provides strategic insight to all projects and ensure that our consulting work is well connected to the broader work being undertaken by GippSport as the Regional Sport Assembly.
