The Latrobe Health Assembly, in partnership with Latrobe City Council and Traralgon Apex, have recently completed the installation of a permanent table tennis table located in Newman Park, Traralgon.
The table will serve as a fun space for community members of all ages to be active, connect socially with others and spend time outdoors.
When asked why the Latrobe Health Assembly has installed the table, Assembly Chair Ms Tanya Rong said âoutdoor table tennis tables bring a new life to parks and playgrounds. It creates a space for connection, its vibrant and the game appeals to a wide range of people. A free, accessible table tennis table combines the benefits of physical and mental exercise in a fun and inclusive way, the whole family can playâ.
âThe Latrobe Health Assembly is seeking innovative ways to build opportunities for social connection and improved health and wellbeing in Latrobe Valley. Having the outdoor table tennis table in this location means that the whole family can enjoy being outdoors. You can invite a group of friends along to enjoy a social game of ping pong and share a picnic, there may even be a bit of healthy competitionâ laughed Ms Rong.
The Newman Park table tennis table is a pilot site for a potentially wider rollout of tables across the Latrobe Valley. Users of the site will be encouraged to add their name and comments to a register via a QR code so that project partners can track usage statistics.
An official launch event is being planned for the near future. In the meantime, head on down to Newman Park and practice your serves, slices and backhands.
