Community Connect Traralgon East

Project Objectives

The Community Connect Traralgon East Project was launched in September 2017. The project was initiated in response to issues of social isolation, criminal youth behaviour and a need to improve child health and development outcomes in the early years. This led to a ‘community up’ placed-based holistic approach to addressing the unique needs of the community, and enabling community led solutions amongst a disadvantaged pocket of the Latrobe community that has approximately 30% public housing in the surrounding estate.

A breadth of activity is being delivered to improve the social and health outcomes of this community, and the project recently won the Victorian Early Years Creating Collaborative Community Partnerships Award for a service or initiative that promotes collaborative practice to support and demonstrate positive outcomes for children and families.

The needs of the community continue to evolve, and ongoing funding for the salary of the Community Engagement Project Officer is required to continue the work that is currently being carried out at the Traralgon East Community Connect Hub.

The Latrobe Health Assembly Board has endorsed funding to the value of $17,500 for 12 months however believe other options must be in place beyond this year and recommended that other funding options are explored beyond this year.
